The Death of Jesus (a)

 

1. Read Isaiah 60:1-6.  This prophecy seems to be fulfilled in Matthew 2:1-12.  But God still kept one surprise for the fulfillment.  Besides the gifts of gold and incense mentioned in Isaiah, the Magi brought one more gift.  What was it?  What might it mean?

 

2. Read John 7:1-9, Luke 9:51-53, Mark 10:32-34 and Luke 13:31-35.  How did Jesus¡¦ behavior change toward the end of his ministry?

 

3. Read John 12:20-27. 

(a)    What do you think the Greeks might have wanted to talk to Jesus about?

(b)   What did Jesus mean when he said the Son of Man will be glorified?

(c)    Was the crucifixion a tragic mistake or part of a divine plan?  Or both?  (Note 1 Corinthians 2:6-8)

 

4. Read John 13:1-17.  How does Philippians 2:5-11 help you understand the meaning of this incident?

 

5. Read John 13:18-27 and Matthew 24 and 25.  Did Jesus call Judas to be a disciple so that Judas could betray him?  Do you se any indications that Jesus did not want Judas to betray him and tried to persuade him aginst doing so?
